I've written recently about how generous and kind people have been to us throughout this summer. But I want to specifically write about how our church family has shown us compassion during this time. I also want to be clear that while we are incredibly grateful for everything we have been given, there is still no amount of gifts, money or words that can heal our hearts and give us what we truly want, which is our son. Jensen has touched the hearts of many people in his short time on earth.
Beginning on May 29, when we found out Jensen's heart had stopped, we had elders from our church family come pray with us. Their wives joined them and they surrounded us in prayer. They shared with some of the other elders and ministers as well, but since we were going to go to the hospital that night, we didn't want to be flooded with a ton of visitors or messages yet. We specifically asked for our news to not be shared until a little later.
Following the next few weeks, we had many people from our church family provide us with meals. We have been sent cards and flowers. We have been given gift cards and cookies. Some people have visited us, mainly elders and ministers. On Sunday, our Bible class collected money to give us a gift card to J's, which you may have seen me mention before. We actually haven't even returned to that Bible class yet because there have been so many babies born this summer just from that class. Also on Sunday, our preacher and his wife brought us some cupcakes from the Magnolia Bakery in Waco because I told them how good those cupcakes are.
On top of this, we have gotten cards, gift cards, treats, flowers and many prayers from our former church family in College Station.
I truly don't know how we would get through this without our church family. I have wondered how this would have looked if I had decided to get my PhD in another state. We haven't been attending Sunset for even a year yet, but many people have been so kind and generous towards us. They are truly showing us the love of Christ frequently. We know we are prayed for and cared for. Thank you, Sunset church family!
