Life is Sweet

What's it like after vet school? For us, it's been sweet. We no longer have to leave gatherings early to go back to studying. We share more of the household chores. We aren't living off of one person's income. We have time to go on walks, plan trips and see family and friends.

Some days it still feels strange to be living through this new chapter of life. It's weird to not be talking about science terms with my husband that I never understood. It's strange to never see my husband trying to examine our own dogs to help him with something he's doing at school. It's nice to sit down to a meal together and have it last over 20 minutes because there's no studying to do.

We are loving this new chapter.

If your spouse is still in vet school, hang in there. It will get better. They will graduate. You will get to see and talk to them more often. For the veterinarian, they'll probably always say school took forever, but to you, you'll look back on that graduation day thinking, "How are we already here? It's gone so fast!" But no matter how quickly or slowly the four years pass by, your spouse will become a veterinarian and you'll be so proud to have had a front-row seat to their hard work over those years.
